The Dimbulla Phuket International Rugby 11s Tournament is building nicely. Dates for the tournament are 7-9 June 2024 with the usual Vets tournament kicking off proceedings on Friday the 7th. Mens & womens Open take centre stage on saturday and Sunday will see knockouts and finals of all competitions. Last year’s winners in both the men’s & women’s open divisions are coming back to defend their titles. Bank Muamalat Bullets and Dingo’s Rugby respectively. On the back of successful 11s Rugby tournaments in Phuket & Chiang Mai in 2023 and an 11s league in Chiang Mai, 11s Rugby is here to stay. With 11s Rugby tournaments in Phuket, Danang, Colombo & Chiang Mai in 2024, it’s an exciting time for rugby in Asia.
There are many new teams and a lot of the old favourites attending The Dimbulla Phuket International Rugby 11s across all divisions, which will continue the legacy of a fun, action packed social weekend.
As is tradition the tournament will open on Friday 7th June 2024 with the Athena Siam Coffin Dodgers O35s & the Whitesmiths One Foot in the Grave O45s vet’s competitions.
Saturday is the Dimbulla Men’s Open and the Aussie Bar Ladies Open Divisions & Sunday will be the knockouts and finals across all divisions.
With the decline in the quality of the Thanyapura pitch we are using a different venue this year, the ACG cricket ground. This venue is not as far away and is situated close to the Heroins monument. It also has a grass surface. There will be the usual beer tent & food trucks in attendance along with other stalls. https://maps.app.goo.gl/vSQZa88zGpqhoh2v5. https://www.facebook.com/phuketsports. This is a lot closer and is a quality grass pitch.
We will again be raising funds for the Asia Center Foundation – Phuket Thailand (NGO) during the weekend. You can find out more about the ACF by visiting their page or website https://asiacenterfoundation.org/. If you have any questions, you can contact Roelien Muller on roemuthai@gmail.com.
For tournament entries or answers to any queries contact Pat at phuketrugby@gmail.com
